PROJECT 1 : JOURNEY FOR THE FIVE SENSES

This project is made up of two separated tasks but both being interrelated :
  1. Precedent Studies : Analyzing spatial poetics and spatial typologies in architecture.
  2. The Journey of Five Senses
In a group of five, we have selected two precedents for reference and analysis. One of it being a pre-modern movement and another one being contemporary. Based on that, we have to identify one linear building and one concentric building according to time period. The building we have chosen for the pre-modern movement is the Dome of Rock by Umayyad Caliph Abdul al-Malik (concentric) and the contemporary movement being the Farnsworth House by Mies Van der Rohe (linear). From the chosen buildings, we are to analysed the spatial typologies and spatial poetics. Below are the informations we gathered :

Moving on to the next task, we are to design a linear building and a concentric building both according to the poem we have selected; 'A Little Bird I Am' by Jeanne-Marie Bouvier De La Motte Guyon.
The concentric design is as shown below :

The linear design is as shown below :

Learning Outcomes :

  1. Understand the spatial types in architecture.
  2. Understand the poetics of a space.
  3. Understand the planning of spaces and spatial organization.
  4. Able to generate visualization through both 2D and 3D modelling and drawings.
  5. Ability to translate concepts into forms.
